The Trinity's Trip to China!

We are three friends starting a small blog where we shall travel around the world via food. We will research some foods and other things about the culture.

Next Stop China!

About China:
China is one of the first civilized areas of the world with a written history dating back almost 5,000 years. Primitive human fossils dating back nearly a million years have been found in the present day China. Almost a fifth of the world's population is located in China - making it the most populous country in the world and it is the fifth largest in geographical size. The main type of food consumed by the Chinese is grains. In the southern areas, rice is the preferred grain; whereas in the north, the preferred  grain is wheat. The second and third most consumed foods are vegetables and tofu, respectively. Rice quickly became the most popular food due to the constant threat of famine. Since rice was always plentiful, filling and cheap it was easily provided to the people of this nation. Chopsticks and soup spoons are the standard dining utensils. Popular breakfast foods are chicken noodle soup, rice porridge or deep fried pastries. Lunchtime meals often include egg rolls and dumplings stuffed with meat or shrimp. The most well-known version of Chinese food known by Americans is Cantonese which  includes stir fry, wonton soup, and suckling pig.

This week we did the following Menu:
Crab Rangoon
Egg Rolls
Fried Rice
Asian Grilled Pork Chops
Honey Chicken
Brownies
Now I had a roommate from China and I have seen her eat EVERY single one of those items. They are all native to China, other than the brownies. Therefore, these are authentic.  Yes these could have been ordered off of a Chinese menu but we made them. We are only featuring one recipe from this and that is the Crab Rangoon. It is very easy and simple and YUMMY. Also this recipe is baked not fried and turned out delicious!

What you will need:
1 package of Cream Cheese
2 oz of Crab
2 Green Onions
1 tbsp of Powder Sugar
2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tsp of Soy Sauce
1/2 tsp of Garlic Powder
1 Package of Wonton Wrappers

Leave the cream cheese out and let it come to room temperature. Once that is done chop up the Crab, and 2 Green Onions, add it to a bowl. Mix everything but Wonton wrappers in and mix and mix until all mixed together. Add a little bit of each to the wrappers and fold in any way you want. There are some directions on the package normally. While you are folding these preheat your oven to 425. It will take awhile to fold. One thing you have to worry about is the wrappers drying out. Keep them in a damp paper towel to avoid this. Once you have formed all of them mist with cooking spray and pop into the oven and bake for 12 minutes or until brown. Then devour. If you want to fry them you can. To fry preheat oil to about 350 and drop one by one, do not overcrowd the pan and cook about 3 - 5 minutes or until golden brown! Please note our recipe was doubled, this normally only makes 20.

I hope you enjoyed our trip to China!

Next time we will try India!
